  Overview

The Cohen Law Group is a small firm comprised of highly accomplished attorneys, supported by a dedicated, tech-savvy staff.  TCLG provides exceptional service and value to its clients; clients appreciate this and come to rely on us as an integral part of their team. We seek to develop these long-term relationships because the most satisfied lawyers we know are those practicing in small firms with clients they understand and respect.

TCLG serves clients in the Denver-Boulder area and across Colorado .  We represent agricultural interests on the eastern plains and businesses on the western slope.  The firm maintains offices in Boulder and Nederland , but because it has clients in Denver and throughout the state, the firm's attorneys and staff members regularly meet with clients in Denver and in some cases at the client's place of business.

What We Offer

Many firms provide first-rate legal services, but we strive to also provide exceptional service and value.  We keep our clients informed.  We return phone calls promptly.  We make ourselves available.  We never forget that our clients pay for our services, and while clients justifiably expect consistently excellent work and sound advice, we know they also expect us to use common sense and not devote more time to a matter than is reasonable given what is at stake.

Areas of Practice

Because of the diverse backgrounds of its attorneys, TCLG has experience in many areas of the law, but emphasizes eight areas of practice:

Agricultural, Equine, Forestry, Wildlife Law, and Public Lands

Business and Commercial Law (Transactions and Litigation)

         Estate Planning, Trusts, and Probate

         Intellectual Property and Unfair Competition

         Municipal Law and Special Districts

         Real Estate Law and Litigation

         Tax-Exempt Organizations and Trade Associations

Taxation, Tax Compliance, and Tax Controversy

Our Approach

We believe the traditional distinction between litigation and transactional work, made at many firms, is usually artificial. Litigation in the commercial sector is almost always a transaction gone sour. Because our lawyers are equally at home in the courtroom and the boardroom, we have the ability to develop and facilitate transactions of today that are the least likely to become the lawsuits of tomorrow. If you or your company becomes a party to a lawsuit, we not only will represent you capably in the litigation, we will teach you how to better protect yourself or your company in the future.

Our Philosophy

TCLG strives to practice law in a customized and result-oriented manner. We understand that every client has his, her or its own personality, character, history, habits and budget. An approach that suits admirably for one client may be too slow, too expensive, or too disruptive for another. Our priority therefore to listen to you to understand your business, your goals, your dreams, and your limitations. And we understand that your priority is to be able to get on with your business and with your life.

We also understand that many clients, both individual and institutional, associate the hiring of lawyers with negative and unfortunate events in their lives. We cannot control the external factors that sometimes require people and entities to seek legal advice; what we can do is try our best make the legal processes as comfortable as possible.

Our Guiding Principles

As TCLG goes about its daily business in the practice of law, we follow certain principles:

The same is true of our family estate planning services, which is an important part of our practice, not a sideline. We will endeavor to provide you with carefully drawn wills, trusts and other estate planning documents designed to provide you peace of mind and ease of transition of your assets. If probate or trust administration proceedings are required, we can provide these as well, eliminating or reducing your need to hire new attorneys at a stressful time of life. We also are well-equipped to assist you with the establishment of foundations and planned-giving programs.

Our trial practice is founded on the notion that all trial lawyers must possess certain skills that can be developed only through experience. These include understanding the principles of persuasion, having a thorough knowledge of the rules of evidence, and having the ability to think on one's feet. Once an attorney develops these skills, he or she is well-equipped to try many different kinds of cases. For this reason, TCLG is comfortable representing clients in all but the most specialized litigation.

No matter how strong your case, or how bright your attorney, effective communication is the key to success in any legal forum. Mark Cohen is a published author and frequent lecturer, as well as a successful trial attorney.  Jeff Cohen has given a number of presentations on choice of entity and other tax-related legal subjects.  All our attorneys have highly developed communication skills. We insist on clear and concise writing and superior oral communication.

We will be prompt and responsive to your needs. We will return your calls quickly, and if any attorney will be unavailable for any extended period we will tell you that ahead of time and plan for any contingencies that may arise during his or her absence. We will keep you consistently and timely informed of the progress of your matter.

The attorneys at TCLG love living and practicing law in Colorado and expect to be doing both for many years to come. Whether the client is a large Denver based organization or a family owned business in rural Colorado, the firm desires to grow with its clients and seeks to develop long-term relationships with clients in the belief that a solid understanding of the client's needs is vital to providing sound legal advice.
